Good Karma Spay and Neuter Clinic is named for Dr. Kris’ first cat, Karma (1992-2010). As a constant friend and companion, she was usually Good Karma.

But she had fleeting mischievous moments as bad Karma.
Dr. Kris was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii and left for college right after graduating from Hilo High School. She earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Puget Sound (Tacoma, Washington) and a PhD in Biopsychology (areas of study including Neuroscience, Behavior Genetics, Psychopharmacology, Drugs of Addiction and Learning) at University at Albany, SUNY. She went on to earn her Veterinary degree at Purdue University (Indiana) in 2004. She moved home to Hawaii and worked for over 3 years with Dr. Stephen Poleshuk at his private practice Keauhou Veterinary Clinic until he sold it.

She then worked at the Hawaii Island Humane Society as the Lead Veterinarian for 11 years during which time she earned a Masters’ of Science with emphasis in Shelter Medicine from University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine. She has decided to focus her time and energies on dog and cat spay and neuter as that is the way to prevent pets from ending up in shelters.
She wishes to collaborate with any and all animal welfare groups to end pet overpopulation on Hawaii island. She enjoys spay and neuter and wants to make quality surgeries attainable for all Hawaii island dogs and cats. For over 11 years she has studied how to do surgeries cost effectively and safely while minimizing pain and stress to the patients. She and her staff will thrive on bringing this service to their community.
